Studying and research in cultural, social and economical aspects related to earthquakes and incorporating the results with risk management issues, especially with the aim of elevating public cooperation and promoting safety culture are among the main goals of this department.  Some major plans of this department are:

  • Determining dimensions of cultural, social and economic problems for earthquakes specially in larger cities;
  • Determining the economic-cultural approaches to reduce the damage caused by earthquakes (direct and indirect);
  • Finding economic solutions for forecasting and estimating seismic losses;
  • Studies on determining different factors in controlling different socio-economic measures;
  • Planning for the cultural development relative to societal preparedness and augmenting the resilience for earthquake;
  • Promoting awareness and citizens’ cooperation in mitigating the risk and issues related to disaster management considering cultural and socio-economic conditions;
  • Finding cultural solutions for promoting safety and attracting people cooperation for creating seismic-safe environment;
  • Investigating methods for augmenting public capacities in confronting cultural-social consequences of earthquakes;
  • Promoting safety and self-help culture in the society.
