Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering Department has been organized with the aim of studying the site and near field effects on strong ground motion, liquefaction, seismic soil-structure interaction and system identification of soil structures using analytical, numerical and experimental methods.

General programs of Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering Department are:

  • Studying the site effects considering topographical and geological conditions, based on the analytical, numerical and experimental methods;
  • Theoretical and experimental surveying of liquefaction phenomena;
  • Providing microzonation maps of geotechnical seismic hazard for large cities;
  • Developing theoretical and numerical methods of soil-structure interactions.
