Geological and Geotechnical Hazards Department has been established to study geological phenomena related to earthquakes, seismic behavior of rock and soil masses, urban development in hazard zones, land subsidence and preparing the relevant necessary engineering geological data and maps needed in various hazard zonation and microzonation projects.

General programs of this department are:

  • Developing comprehensive plans for landslide risk management in Iran;
  • Research on urban geology and preparing necessary criteria for development in geological hazard prone zones;
  • Research on dynamic behavior of rock masses and underground opening stability;
  • Research on the modern investigation methods in studying geohazards.
