Jahrom-Darab Earthquake of 10 July 2003, Ml.5.9
At 17:06 (UTC) and 21:36 (local time) on 10 July 2003, an earthquake with magnitude of Ml=5.9 occurred in the 50 kilometers southeast of Jahrom, Iran. Based on analysis of seismograms recorded in the broadband network of IIEES, the epicentral coordinates of the event were determined 28.30°N and 54.21°E. The earthquake was associated with a significant aftershock with a magnitude of Ms=5.5, which occurred 34 minutes after the mainshock. Due to the mainshock and its aftershocks, about 2,000 housing units in the villages were destroyed completely and more 4,000 housing units faced serious damages. The greatest damages were reported in the villages of Darreh-Shour, Dehno, Dabiran and Shahr-e-Pir. The earthquake killed one person and injured 25 people. According to the Harvard’s seismological center (CMT solution), the focal mechanism of the earthquake was calculated as pressure (reverse) with a strike-slip component.
