Kahak Earthquake of 18 June 2007, Ml=5.6

An earthquake with a magnitude of (ML=5.6) occurred about 12 kilometers south of Qom near the faults trends with a northwest-southeast bearing at 17:59:50 local time on Monday, June 18, 2007. According to the recorded seismograms of the IIEES Iranian National Seismic Network (INSN), the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 34.52ºN and 50.86ºE. The earthquake was perceptible in Qom, Tehran, Isfahan, Markazi, Semnan, Yazd, Qazvin and Mazandaran provinces. The shaking was obviously perceived in northern Tehran especially in the upper floors of the buildings. The event was recorded by 15 INSN stations. The preliminary estimated depth of the earthquake is 17 kilometers. More than 10 aftershocks were recorded with maximum magnitude of ML=3.3 by 19:20 on the same day. The highest intensity of the earthquake was reported in Kahak region of Qom province.
