According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), a delegation of three faculty members from the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia visited the Advanced Earthquake Engineering Laboratory in Sohanak on October 4, 2022, where they learned about the scientific and technical achievements of the project. They were presented with a report on the project’s design and implementation process and the significant accomplishments and activities of the IIEES in the three decades since its establishment. They visited lab facilities such as the strong floor-reaction wall, the shaking table, and the centrifuge, experiencing the laboratory’s unique capabilities in performing various tests required by large projects in West Asia.

The delegation was introduced to the research institute’s other missions at the National Broadband Seismic Network at the IIEES. They also attended a meeting with the Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies, the head of the Structural Engineering Research Center, and some academic faculty members of the Structural Engineering and Risk Management Research Center. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the advanced facilities and equipment at IIEES and Iran’s progress in earthquake engineering. The representatives also showed interest in scientific interactions, such as joint research projects in health monitoring, bridge retrofitting, vulnerability assessment, and risk management in Armenian cities, as well as short-term training courses (face-to-face and online) with IIEES faculty members.
