In order to reach a sustainable development for an earthquake prone country such as Iran, a general strategy for decreasing the imposed fatalities and economic losses as well as disaster prevention is needed to be compiled and carried out in a systematic manner with the cooperation of all related organizations, scientists and specialists. To promote these objectives, one of the most effective factors is the development of knowledge and new scientific discoveries by discussion and exchange of ideas among scientists and decision-makers and governmental bodies of the country. In this regard, the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), having the experience of previous conferences and with the cooperation of related ministries, universities, research centers, and scientific organizations and committees, has organized the Fifth International Conference on Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (SEE5). In this conference, the recent advances and results obtained from scientific research in the field of seismology and earthquake engineering will be discussed, aiming to create a new outlook and to develop necessary provisions in-line with the promotion of construction quality, in order to open new horizons for solving existing problems and being effective towards developing a safer environment for our fellow citizens.
Following the call for papers, from 965 abstracts received from over 45 countries, 550 full papers were accepted for publication in the conference proceedings as well as the abstract volume, including 248 papers in English and 302 papers in Persian. Among these, 293 have been scheduled for oral presentation and 257 are considered for poster session.
We would like to take this opportunity and thank our respected keynotes, state-of-the-art speakers and authors for their kind contribution; and the IIEES academic members and scientific committee, research advisory, co-sponsors and executive committee, who have contributed toward the successful organization of the SEE5 conference.
