The 26th National “Earthquake and Safety Drill” – November 27, 2024

The 26th National Earthquake and Safety Drill, with the slogan "Safe School, Resilient Community," will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, with the aim of improving the preparedness of students and their families for dealing with earthquakes. The drill will be conducted simultaneously across the country, with earthquake sirens broadcasted on national radio. This drill is the largest public safety training event in the country related to earthquake safety, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, UNESCO Regional Education and Research Center on Earthquake Management), the Ministry of Education (School Students Organization), the Ministry of the Interior (National Disaster Management Organization), the Iranian Red Crescent Society (Youth Organization and Rescue and Relief Organization), Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Tehran Municipality (Tehran Disaster Mitigation and Management Organization), and the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Education.

It is noteworthy that this year, in addition to the general approach of the drill, the preparedness of students with special needs (particularly those with physical and mobility limitations) will be given special attention for the first time, and related training materials are provided in Annex 5 of the guidelines for the implementation of the National Earthquake and Safety Drill (for school principals and neighborhood disaster managers).

Key points to note for this year’s drill:

  • It is planned that in the 26th drill, all schools and surrounding neighborhoods will simultaneously carry out earthquake and safety drills.
  • Ensuring safety during the drill is the responsibility of the school principals, and it is essential to avoid performing dangerous or manoeuver movement.
