At 9:54 AM (6:24 AM GMT) on Friday, March 28, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck central Myanmar. The earthquake was recorded and processed at 30 broadband seismic stations of the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES). Due to the relatively shallow depth of the epicenter (approximately 10 kilometers), the earthquake was felt up to more than 1500 kilometers away in neighboring countries, causing significant damage and unexpected casualties in the Thai capital, Bangkok, located 1000 kilometers from the epicenter.
